How to apply

  1. For Apply Online Only

    1. Applications will only be accepted online on website www.joinindianarmy.nic.in No offline applications will be accepted.
    2. Open the website www.ioinindianarmy.nic.in
    3. Click on Officers Entry ‘Apply/Login’ and then click ‘Registration’
    4. Follow onscreen instructions for registration. Fill online Registration after reading instructions very carefully. After registration, your profile will open. Click on ‘Apply Online’ to process the application. A page ‘Office Selection-Eligibility’ will open. If you are already registered, you can login using your username and password and go to officer selection eligibility directly.
    5. Your registration details will confirm your eligibility to apply. Click on ‘Apply’ and a page ‘Application Form’ will open. Proceed with the application as per onscreen instructions. Read onscreen instructions carefully and click ‘Continue’ to fill details under various segments personal information, Communication details, Education details and details of previous SSB ‘Save & Continue’ each time before you proceed to the next segment.
    6. After filling details of last segment, you will move to a page ‘Summary of Information’ wherein you can check & edit entries you have made so far. Only after ascertaining the correctness of all your details click on ‘Submit’. After submitting click on ‘PDF’ and take out ‘two copies’ of the application form having the Roll Number and other details generated by the system.
    7. The second copy of the printout of online application is to be retained by the candidate for his reference There is no need to send any hard copy to Directorate Gen of Recruiting.
    8. Applications of Candidates serving in the Armed Forces, duly countersigned by the Commanding Officer should be taken along with all other documents as stated above to the SSB as and when called for the same.
  2. Documents to be carried to the Selection Centre by the candidate duly self attested:-
    1. One copy of the Print out of application form duly signed and self attested photograph affixed.
    2. Copy of Matriculation or equivalent certificate issued by the concerned Board of education (for proof of age) and Class X Marks Sheet.
    3. Copy of 12th Class Certificate & Marks sheet.
    4. Copy of Graduation Degree/Provisional Degree (in case of three years LLB after graduation).
    5. Copy of LLB Degree/Provisional Degree. (vi) Copy of Marks sheets of all years/Semesters.
    6. Copy of registration with Bar Council of India/State OR Certificate from college/University that the LLB Course in the said institution is recognized by Bar Council of India.
    7. Certificate issued by the University regarding formula for conversion of CGPA/Grades into marks followed by the University
  3. Candidates must submit only one application. Receipt of multiple applications from the same candidate will result in cancellation of candidature, and no representation will be entertained in this regard.

Selection Process

The selection procedure is as follows:-

  1. Shortlistin of Applications. Integrated HQ of MoD (Army) reserves the right to shortlist applications and to fix cutoff percentage of marks without assigning any reason. After shortlisting of applications, the Center allotment will be intimated to the candidate via their registered email. After allotment of Selection Center, candidates will have to log in to the website and select their SSB dates on a first come first served basis, upto a specified date, as notified on the website.
  2. Only shortlisted eligible candidates will be interviewed at Selection Centers, Allahabad(UP), Bhopal(MP), Bangalore (Karnataka) and Kapurthala (PB) by Psychologist, Group Testing Officer and Interviewing Officer. Call up letter for SSB interview will be sent by respective Selection Centers on candidates registered e-mail id and SMS only. Allotment of Selection Center is at the discretion of Directorate Gen of Recruiting, IHQ of MoD (Army) and NO request for changes will be entertained in this regard.
  3. Candidates will be put through two stage selection procedure Those who clear Stage I will go to Stage II. Those who fail in stage I will be returned on the same day. Duration of SSB interviews is five days excluding day of arrival and details of the same are available at official website of Rtg Dte www.joinindianarmy.nic.in This will be followed by a medical examination for the candidates who get recommended after Stage II.
  4. Candidates recommended by the SSB and declared medically fit, will be issued joining letter for training in the order of merit depending on the number of vacancies available.

Physical Standards

    1. Height & Weight. The minimum acceptable height and weight for men is 157.5 cms with correlated weight and for women candidate is 152 cm and 42 kg. In case of candidates belonging to the North East and hilly areas like Gorkhas, Nepalese, Assamese and Garhwalis, the height is relaxed by 5 cms and weight commensurate with reduced height. In case of candidates from Lakshadweep, the minimum acceptable height is reduced by 2cms.
    2. To pass fit, a candidate must be in good physical and mental health, free from any disability.

    4. Prospective candidates are advised to exercise and keep themselves physically fit, in order to avoid any injury due to the rigorous physical training at Officers Training Academy. In order to be able to adjust to the regime at the Training Academy the candidates are advised to achieve following standards before joining the OTA, if finally selected:-
      1. Running 2.4 km in 15 minutes
      2. Push Ups-13 Nos.
      3. Sit Ups-25 Nos.
      4. Chin Ups 6 Nos.
      5. Rope climbing 3-4 Meters.

Medical Examination

A candidate recommended by the Service Selection Board will undergo a medical examination by a Board of Service Medical Officers. In addition Women candidate will undergo Medical Examination by a lady Medical officer/lady specialist officer to rule out gynecological disorders. There will be a female attendant present at the time of med examination in case the medical officer /specialist officer happens to be male. Only those candidates will be admitted to the academy who are declared fit by the Medical Board. The proceedings of the Medical Board are confidential and will not be divulged to anyone. However, candidates declared unfit by the Special Medical Board (SMB) will be intimated by the president of the SMB. The procedure for request for Appeal Medical Board (AMB) will also be intimated to the candidates. Unfit Candidates should report for AMB within a maximum period of 42 days from the date of SMB. Candidates declared unfit by AMB will be intimated by the President, AMB about procedure to appeal against decision of AMB. Candidates must also note that Review Medical Board (RMB) will be granted at the discretion of DGAFMS based on the merits of the case and that RMB is NOT a right. Candidates will be considered medically fit only on receipt of the approved medical documents from Directorate General Medical Services.
Pregnancy, if detected at any stage, after selection at SSB or during training will debar the female candidate from grant of commission.

MERIT LIST

IT IS TO BE NOTED THAT MERE QUALIFYING AT THE SSB INTERVIEW DOES NOT CONFIRM FINAL SELECTION. MERIT LIST WILL BE PREPARED ON THE BASIS OF THE MARKS OBTAINED BY THE CANDIDATE AT SSB INTERVIEW. HIGHER EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, PREVIOUS PERFORMANCES,
NCC BACKGROUND, ETC HAVE NO ROLE TO PLAY. THOSE IN THE MERIT LIST WHO COME WITHIN THE STIPULATED VACANCIES AND ARE MEDICALLY FIT WILL BE ISSUED JOINING LETTERS FOR PRE-COMMISSIONING TRAINING AT OTA.

Training

Duration of training is 49 weeks at OTA, Chennai.

  1. Selected candidates will be detailed for training at OTA, Chennai according to their position in the final order of merit, up to the number of vacancies available at the time, subject to meeting all eligibility criteria.
  2. Candidates will neither be allowed to marry during the period of training nor will he/she be allowed to live with parents/Guardians. Candidates must not marry until they complete the full training at the Officers Training Academy. A candidate, who marries subsequent to the date of his/her application, though successful at the Services Selection Board interview or medical examination, will not be inducted for training. A candidate if he/she marries, while under training, shall be discharged and will be liable to refund all expenditure incurred on him/her by the government.
  3. Training at OTA is at Govt. expense All candidates who successfully complete Pre-Commission training at Officers Training Academy, Chennai will be awarded “Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management and Strategic Studies” by University of Madras.
  4. Cost of Training. The entire cost of training is at Government expense. In case the cadet is withdrawn from training academy due to reasons other than medical ground or the reasons not beyond his/her control, he/she will be liable to refund cost of training @ Rs. 10,247/- per week till Jul 2018, thereafter a yearly escalation of 8% p.a. will be calculated on the Per Capita Cost of Training for each ensuing year (or as notified from time to time) for the period of his stay at OTA, Chennai.
